About the Project
PaperBound is an educational initiative geared towards young and budding readers to highlight the importance of inclusive representation of women in literature and media and to motivate readers to explore diverse perspectives. Our organization utilizes a creative approach to imparting knowledge and awareness about the lack of representation of women in literature through a curriculum, a storybook series, and a hands-on workshop program.
The curriculum was curated keeping in mind the various forms of creative expression such as novels, poems, music, and plays. The 5 part handbook explores questions of representation, inclusion, misrepresentation, and diversity in these forms of art through the lens of feminist creators in India. The PaperBound Children’s Book Series targets younger audiences, with the aim of empowering young readers and writers to correct the lack of absence of women’s representation. This complex societal issue is explored through the journeys of Lavanya, Aditi, and Farah as they work on taking concrete steps to address the lack of representation of women in film, literature, and media.
The PaperBound Workshop Series focuses on imparting the information detailed in the curriculum through an interactive workshop in which young students at Hamari Pahchan learn how to leverage literary devices and narratives to create works of media that promote diversity and inclusivity. To provide more literary resources to these students in the form of books, we donated the PaperBound Library at Hamari Pahchan.
