Sansara Nagpal

Sansara Nagpal is a student currently enrolled at the American School of Bombay, where she studies English, Psychology, Biology, Mathematics, Global Politics, and Spanish. With a deep interest in and passion for the humanities, particularly English, Psychology, and the arts, both in theory and praxis, she has sought to deepen her academic knowledge and involvement through enrichment opportunities, moving out of her comfort zone and cutting through the boundaries of disciplines. A young student who believes in the transformative potential of art, especially as a cathartic vehicle for social change, Sansara is on the quest to master her knowledge of the arts, both its textual and performative possibilities, by deciphering the larger social, cultural, and economic contexts of the spaces around her to envision a safer tomorrow.

To this end, she believes acquiring knowledge and absorbing meaningful information from every nook and corner possible is the best first step. Constantly pushing her learning efforts beyond the boundaries of the classroom, Sansara’s commitment to learning can be found in her choice to enmesh herself in enriching learning ecosystems over the last few years, starting with a psychology course in human behavior that she completed at Columbia University’s Academic Immersion Program in 2022. She was enrolled in Johns Hopkins University’s Creative Pre-College course in creative writing in the same year, followed by Brown University’s ‘Critical Thinking About Human Behaviour’ in the summer of 2023, sharpening her intellectual resources to understand and capture the world around her more comprehensively.

Sansara’s artistic and creative pursuits are rooted in an earnest desire to capture, express, and amplify the radical power of creative arts, and this is visible in her inseparable connection to diverse performance cultures and avenues. Her passion is spread across singing, playing the piano, theatre, and public speaking, and she can be found constantly thinking about the ways in which different art forms can interact and collaborate to paint vivid pictures of life in all its shapes and sizes.

An experienced and accomplished vocalist, formally training in the same since the age of five, Sansara can be found recording and publishing music videos whilst sharpening her vocal abilities through learning spaces such as the Berkeley Vocal Summit or Trinity College London’s Rock and Pop Vocals lessons. An active member of the school choir, Sansara doesn't shy away from a call to “break a leg” as she continues to explore the theatrical possibilities of music. Also, she has been pursuing exams in Theater, Speech and Drama, and Piano through Trinity. Along with exploring new terrains in music every day, Sansara also shares the lessons she learns with those around her, and for this, she has been volunteering at the NGO Happy Feet for over a year, teaching students from socioeconomically vulnerable communities piano and music.

When not preoccupied with her artistic pursuits, Sansara is an avid chess player, and most recently, in March 2024, she participated in the London English Chess Federation and FIDE Rating chess championships in London. Outside school, her interests in exploring languages and cultures have found her venturing into Spanish over the last few years, and she is diligently committed to mastering the language. Apart from interdisciplinary learning and creative outlets of self-expression that are close to her heart, writing — academic and creative — is a central part of this young learner’s journey. Be it through her independent blog ‘Writing Lives,’ where she draws from psychology and gender studies to rewrite and re-right the experience of being a woman in the contemporary world, foregrounding historically marginalized voices, or research project diving deep into the history of the Indian English Novel of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries under Dr. Navina Java, research and writing are powerful tools that Sansara uses to hope for a better and more equal future.

Her work with Paperbound is an extension of her extensive artistic and creative experience and skills, wherein she merges her passion for journalism and media in the modern world with her disciplinary and artistic interests to envision and work towards an inclusive future. In knowledge and arts, Sansara finds the key to a hopeful future — a future where every voice is heard, shared, and amplified.
